Wesley Glen Collaborates with Sunapple Studio for Art Grant Project
(Columbus, Ohio)- For the month of June, Wesley Glen Retirement Community residents, along with Sunapple Studio artists have been working together to create a collaborative art project. Sunapple, an art studio for disabled artists, invited Wesley Glen to be a part of this project after receiving a grant from VSA Ohio and the Ohio Arts Council to implement a month-long art program. This grant is intended to enrich the lives of both Sunapple artists, as well as residents at Wesley Glen through teamwork, relationship building, and creativity.
“We are lucky to have received this grant,” explained Margo Crabtree “it is amazing how much you are able to gain from group art projects, especially when it is such a diverse group. We have a mixture of individuals who have just begun painting, who are intermediate painters, and a few professional painters.”
Despite their differences, all the artists came together every Wednesday in June. Artist and teacher, Christine Munhall, led four Wesley Glen residents and four artists from Sunapple through their projects. Together, the group created various mixed media wall murals.
“We are happy to collaborate with Sunapple Studios,” explains Carol Wallenfelsz, life enrichment supervisor at Wesley Glen. “The Sunapple artists have encouraged and supported each other, and as a result, they have built relationships that were otherwise unlikely. As a life enrichment professional, that is what I love to see.”
Wesley Glen will hold an exhibit in the library in mid-August. Then, the exhibit will be displayed at FCBDD Service Coordination building in September through December.
